New guitar obsession

You know I love Guild guitars, and you know I love hollowbody electrics. So when I saw John Mayer playing a hollowbody Guild in his Where the Light Is DVD (well worth the 13 bucks, by the way), I set about trying to figure out what he was playing.

As best I can figure, it's a Guild Starfire IV. You can sometimes find these from the golden era of USA-made Guilds for as low as $1,500 on eBay. Compare that to a Gibson ES-335 of a similar vintage, which would set you back about $9,000, and it seems like a bargain, right?

Anyway, never gonna happen. But here is the cut from the DVD that inspired me. His playing on this song is just dead on, and the tone he gets from the Guild is absolute perfection:

That DVD is worth $30 let alone less!

I couldn't help but notice that the dates of your last 3 posts were 15, 16, and 23.

You'd think I've been watching 5 episodes of Lost every day for the past two weeks. Actually, I only watch 3 per day. The kids watch 5.

thats a nice guitar, nice nice tone, and boy can play, though, as this video is evident, he can over play too. but then again, i'm guilty of the same.
