Damn Yankees

So to speak.

As I was dozing off last night, I was constructing a little piece in my head about what I think should be done with the Yankees. I almost, but not quite, came to the conclusion that I thought Joe Torre should be fired. I didn't really think it through all the way, but it looks as if it will probably happen before I have a chance to write about it, at least according to this report.

Other thoughts, quickly, since I'm on my way out the door:

Unload A-Rod, somehow, anyhow. All-time level great player. Future Hall of Famer. Not a comnpetitor. Not a Yankee.

Wire Steinbrenner's jaw shut, so he can't try to do Brian Cashman's job for him anymore.

Get pitching. Young pitching. Not 40-year old, aching back pitching. I could have lived with Josh Beckett being a bust in New York. I can't live with any more Kevin Brown, Randy Johnson types.

Try not to take too much solace in the fact that, mathematically speaking, you won infinitely more playoff games this year than the third-place Red Sox. No one really cares.

All very good points.

Is John Smoltz too old to be a Yankee?

Maybe this would work...

Can we get rid of Jaret Wright, too? :(

Scott...I have two words for you...Carl Pavano...

sorry for rubbing it in, but nobody on the Yankees cares about winning anymore. These veterans all go home to a pile of money and nothing else to do in their pro career except wait for another world seires ring to just fall into thier their lap. George should trade Cano and Wang out of respect for them.

Sorry. Smoltz hasn't yet had enough proven major league success to crack the Yankees' roster. Maybe after a couple more seasons.

The first Yankee who needs to go is...
...George Steinbrenner. It's unconscionable the way he kept Joe Torre on a string for so long. Joe will go down in history as one of baseball's greatest people (and hopefully, managers).
While on the Yankees, listen to how Captain Derek Jeter responded to the tragic passing of Cory Lidle: "I am shocked by this devastating news. Spending the last few months as Cory's teammate, I came to know him as a great man. While he was known as a baseball player, he was, more importantly, a husband and father and, at a time like this, I want to share my deepest sympathies with his wife Melanie, his son Christopher and all those who know and loved him."
What a class act.
