Many people believe that today, being the day after Thanksgiving, will be the busiest shopping day of the year. It won't. In a sign of our culture's penchant for procrastination, the busiest shopping day of the year is always the Saturday before Christmas. The week leading up to Christmas is known in the retail sector as the "13th month of the year."
The day after Thanksgiving is, however, the first day that most retail operations will see a profit during the calendar year. Hence the oft-misunderstood term "Black Friday."
I had to laugh yesterday when I saw an ad during the football game that tried to lure me into J.C. Penney at 5:00 a.m. Since I get hives just walking through J.C. Penney on my way to another store, even in the middle of summer when the place is dead, the idea that I would get up so early to go there today was amusing.

YOu are incorrect, sir. Since 2003, Black Friday has been the busiest shopping day of the year. Source: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/26/business/26retail.html (registration required)
And you may have blogged about this already (I'm not caught up), but the pop-up comments are teh suck.
Heh, I love this new blogging use of the word "teh". It's very bohemian. But I can only assume that since it's becoming the new "in" thing that you will shun it like the plague and make fun of anyone who uses it. ;)
I actually did come in here to comment on Black Friday, but now I think I'll write my own post about it instead (giving you proper credit, of course.) Hop on over to my house!
Hmm, somehow I doubt Scottish was quoting Hagrid. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Anyway, I checked his NY Times story, and it turns out it wasn't written by Paul Krugman, so there's no reason to disbelieve it. Apparently in 2003, "Black Friday" did overtake the Saturday before Christmas as the busiest shopping day of the year. Last I checked into this was 2000, when I was heavily involved in the retail sector. Thankfully, I no longer am, but it does make my information suspect. Sorry about that.
As for the pop-up comments, I put them in a couple months ago so people would not have to navigate away from the main blog page to leave them. Since then, I have been annoyed by them on other people's blogs and have been meaning to change it. Just never got around to it. But I will now. Say goodbye to "teh suck."
What does Hagrid have to do with anything? I wasn't quoting him either. I was just saying that a lot of bloggers are using "teh" now and I think it's cute.
Hmm, I guess I just assume a typo whenever I see "teh." Also, I guess Hagrid says "ter," not "teh," so never mind about that.
People seriously do that on purpose? "Bohemian" seems rather generous.
Apparently I type "hmm" a lot. That's not quite as annoying a blogger habit as starting every sentence with "so," but it's pretty weak.
"teh" is the new black
Basically, for those of you a year or so behind the curve ;), "teh" combined with a proceeding adjective is used to indicate that something is the superlative of things that can be described with said adjective.
